Amiga Island
This island was described and named by Christopher Columbus on his first voyage to the New World. It is about a mile off the north coast and 20 minutes from Cormier Beach Resort by boat. Columbus sailed by it before as he approached the island of Hispaniola (present day Haiti). There are a number of artifacts from the colonial Spanish as well as the Arawak indians (whom the Spanish ultimately rendered extinct).
